An ocean of mystery

The city of Tamosa has long been an ancient port with a particular affinity to the oceans and, as part of the lost continent of Atlantis, possibly even its most important city, or even further its capital. Scholars have not yet been able to definitively answer whether or not this is the case, however—but they have suggested that the city was once the capital of a long-lost Atlantean civilisation, guarded by a mythical giant whale known as the Myreid Matriarch (in Portuguese, Mireida Matriarca).

This mighty whale was perceived in an interesting and complex manner during the times of antiquity, for some viewed her as a protector and guardian of the oceans, while others venerated her as a vengeful and monstrous creature. In myth and legend, she was said to inspire a sense of awe and respect with her enormous size—but also to be an indomitable force of nature, both confounding and threatening sailors with her unpredictable and destructive powers. She was both admired and feared, symbolising both courage and terror, while the legends and tales that the ancient seafarers told of her have been passed down through the generations within the Tamosi community.

Apart from her mythological element, scholars have proposed that the city of Tamosa was a major gateway to Atlantis. This is suggested due to the fact that it boasted a complex network of waterways that were intricate and extensive at the time, which may indicate the advanced knowledge of architecture and engineering that was necessary to build such a system. Additionally, some scholars have also pointed to the circular city layout once attributed to Tamosa, claiming that this, along with its enormous ancient undersea city and cave network in central, south and west Tamosa, including but not limited to between Xandai and the Mayar Islands, could indicate a connection to the mythical lost continent.

While there is still much debate surrounding the true nature of the ancient city and its mysterious connections to the Atlantis myth, it remains an intriguing and fascinating topic, with the potential to provide further insights into the forgotten past and the secrets that it holds. As scholars continue to dispute both the theory of Atlantis and the potential connections of Tamosa to the lost continent, it is up to us to explore the evidence and decide for ourselves.
